Depending on your organisation’s size and type, you will need to send a few of your nominated staff for First Aid at Work training. If you have a team who has previously attended a first aid course in Liverpool, you could sign them up for a refresher to renew their certificate and update their skills. These courses arm select members of your team the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out first aid duties in the event an accident in the workplace.
A workplace first aid risk assessment identifies the need for a First Aider in your workplace. Know-How Training Ltd offers three-day courses that allow you to meet the requirements set by the 1981 Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations and the 1982 Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland).
The three-day First Aid at Work training, while comprehensive, will not qualify you to become a doctor, nurse or a paramedic. It will, however, provide you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to save a life as a certified First Aider.
The first aid course in Liverpool covers the legal duties of a First Aider and brings an understanding of what may be required of you in an unfortunate situation. The course will delve into the following pivotal aspects:
- Your role as a First Aider
- How to manage an emergency
- How to communicate with a patient
- Casualty care
- Dealing with unresponsive casualty
- Health and safety (first aid) regulations
- Defibrillator pad placement
You will also learn how to respond to:
- Asthma attacks
- Minor and Severe Bleeding
- Burns and scalds
- Bone, muscle and joint injuries
- Choking in adult and babies
- Chest pains, including heart attack
- Defibrillator prompts
- Eye injuries
- Head injuries
- Resuscitation (adult CPR)
- Low blood sugar
- Spinal injuries
- Severe allergic reaction
This qualification is available to candidates14 years old or older, but they may be unable to act as a First Aider in a workplace until they have reached the age of 16.
It is recommended that candidates hold a literacy of First Aid at Work Level 1 or an equivalent of, at a minimum.
Due to the practical nature of the first aid, there will be assessments that gauge a candidate’s skill and their ability to respond to physical demands in a real-life situation. An example would be to do CPR on a mannequin.
It may be possible to create a reasonable adjustment to candidates with a medical condition, disability or learning need. Interested applicants may contact us to discuss.
A written assessment determines a candidate’s viability for the qualification. The assessment paper contains 20 multiple choice questions: learners need to achieve at least15 correct answers to pass. The duration of the assessment is 30 minutes. Learners will not be graded; they will either pass or be referred.
