Hairdressing is an ever expanding, exciting and competitive industry. The increased depth of knowledge and skills at Level 3 will provide specialised skills and techniques in creative cutting, colouring, dressing and styling hair, both short and long and also men’s hairstyling. It also provides training in specialist consultation and treatment services for hair and scalp conditions. In order to gain the product and services promotion unit you will plan, organise and carry out a promotional activity such as a coffee morning.
As well as hands-on creative lessons in our modern well-equipped studios, you will have the opportunity to carry out services on paying clients, developing excellent customer service. This experience will develop both confidence and competence in preparation for the workplace. It will enable you to develop your artistic flair and creativity enabling you to work using individual style. Additional skills which will help you are: motivation and the will to succeed, dedication and enthusiasm to cope when the going gets tough, excellent communication skills, creativity and a good standard of appearance to promote the industry. You will have the opportunity to take part in competitions and showcase your skills at the college Hair Show. Opportunities to shine will include encouragement to take part in internal and external skills events.
What previous qualifications or experience do I need?
Successful completion of level 2 Hairdressing.,You must achieve at least five GCSEs grade A*/9 – C/4 in four different subjects, including English Language and/or maths, or an equivalent Level 2 vocational qualification.
How will I be assessed?
Your knowledge and understanding in these units will be collected in a portfolio of evidence. Guidance for this will come from your assessor. Your assessor may also ask questions to confirm your knowledge and understanding. Your assessor will also observe your practical performance in one assessment. Your grade will be determined by achievement of assessment criteria and achievement of additional performance standards.
What can I do after completing this course?
This course can provide a pathway to more specialised course in Beauty Therapy or to higher study in the College in Salon Management.
Are there any extra costs?
You will be required to purchase a college kit which includes Level 3 salon wear. Attendance is compulsory on some trips and visits, which is £25. Details will be provided separately, in advance
