We will teach you about intertior design styles. This course will be delivered face-to-face on the Hills Road Sixth Form College site. If we are advised to stop face-to-face teaching due to COVID-19, courses will be delivered online where possible using Zoom.

Students are introduced to design styles and themes, aspects of lightening and the use of colour. One room in the home should be identified as the focus for practical work. Students are encourage to develop their own creative brief, considering the function and use of the room, prepare a room survey and draw a basic plan. Furniture layouts and lighting plans can be developed as an option.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:

Have a basic appreciation of different themes and styles.
Be able to develop their own creative brief.
Have a knowledge of reference sources for their interest and taste.
Be able to measure and produce a simple scale plan of a room.
Understand principle colour schemes and how and where to incorporate them.
Have an understanding of lighting effects in a room.
Produce a sample or inspirational board, to help execute their ideas.
Students need to source reference materials (paint charts, fabric samples etc) and at least one interior design magazine. They will need a 3m measuring tape
