ITEC Sports Massage Level 3 is aimed at beginners, looking for their first qualification in massage.
IMPORTANT: We do not teach Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) as part of this course. Students must either hold a prior Level 3 qualification in A&P or have studied the subject to a sufficient level to be able to take the ITEC A&P Level 3 exam. This course is therefore aimed primarily at students of Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture or Medicine or Sports related subjects, who have a prior knowledge of A&P. This course is aimed at students with no previous massage experience or qualification who are interested in qualifying in and practising Sports Massage. The way we teach this fast-track course is primarily aimed at students of Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Medicine or Sports related subjects, who have prior knowledge of A&P and who are aiming to practise their chosen profession but are interested in gaining a massage qualification as well.
Students wishing to work specifically as Sports Massage Therapists should aim to follow this course with a Level 4 qualification.
Students without prior knowledge of A&P should consider starting with Holistic Massage Level 3 and should follow that up, if this is their intention, with Sports Massage Level 4.
Sports Massage Level 3 is a good, basic qualification. The course starts with the fundamentals, giving students a grounding in the massage strokes known as effleurage, petrissage and percussion. Students will be given a full body massage routine and will spend some time, at the start of the course, mastering these, learning to connect with their client and to read their client’s muscles.
The course will then cover a number of sports massage techniques including:
Deep Tissue Massage
Muscle Energy Technique
Myofascial Release
Trigger Points
Neuromuscular Facilitation Technique
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation
The course also covers the basics of nutrition, professional conduct, patient care, assessment and re-assment, hygiene and health and safety. For a full syllabus, please follow this link to the ITEC website.
ITEC Sports Massage Level 3 will enable students to work professionally as a massage therapist and to join the Sports Massage Association (Level 3 membership).
