The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is an occupational qualification for those who have completed a Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing qualification and are seeking a career as an employed or self – employed hairdresser / stylist. The majority of your learning will take place in the College’s own well-equipped salon which is a real working environment. In addition, you will also undertake work experience in an external commercial salon. This course will also develop your communication and wider personal skills which are essential in this type of work.
This qualification is recognised by the UK’s lead hairdressing professional association and will prepare you for a career as a senior hairdresser/ stylist.
For this course you will need to have achieved the following:
· Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing
On receipt of your application to study this course you will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of the teaching team to discuss the course and its requirements further.
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for a variety of advanced hairdressing techniques and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hairdresser/stylist. You must achieve all mandatory and optional units which include:
• Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
• Hairdressing consultation support for colleagues
• Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
• Bridal hair styling
• Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks
• Colour hair to create a variety of looks
• Provide hair extension services
• Manage the creation of a hair style collection
• Promote and sell products and services to clients
Alongside your main programme of study, you will also study either GCSE or Functional Skill in English and Maths if you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4 or above. If you have achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths you will engage in extending these skills through a Directed Study Programme.
All units contain internal and external assessment elements and include an externally set and externally marked theory exams. Formative and summative practical assessments will be carried out for each unit. You will be continually assessed through written means including knowledge questions, assignments, oral questions and online exams.
GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications are assessed through external examination and portfolio work
