What is a Paralegal?

Providing legal support, including administrative tasks, carrying out research and drafting legal documents and forms.

Duties of a Paralegal

Provide legal support whilst working under supervision. Typical activities that may be carried out, but are not exclusive to this role include:
Managing data/records
Reviewing documents
Drafting and producing legal documents and standard forms
Assisting with the inception, progress and completion of client files
Carrying out research
Handling confidential and sensitive information
Understand and utilise basic financial information
Communicating (written and oral) with internal and external clients

Ethics, professionalism and judgement, technical legal practice, managing themselves and their own work and working with other people.

What Will I Achieve?

Paralegal Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
CILEx Diploma in Providing Legal Services Level 3
Functional Skills English Level 2 – (If previously not exempt)
Functional Skills Maths Level 2 – (If previously not exempt)

Duration

An apprentice will typically take 24 months to complete the Paralegal Apprenticeship Standard Level 3.

Working Hours & Salary

An apprentice will usually work between 30 – 40 hours per week and will earn a minimum of £3.90 per hour. This will vary between different employers and criteria of the apprentice.

Career Progression

Following the completion of the Paralegal Apprenticeship Standard Level 3, this may provide exemptions for the Apprentice to progress to the Chartered Legal Executive Level 6 Apprenticeship standard.
