The primary role of a software developer is to build and test simple, high-quality code across front end, logic and database layers. A developer will typically be working as part of a larger team, in which they will have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall project. The developer will need to be able to interpret design documentation and specifications. The customer requirements will typically be defined and agreed by more experienced or specialist members of the team, such as a business analyst or technical architect. The Software Developer Apprenticeship lasts for up to 18 months, with apprentices coming into the Creative Process training centre on a monthly basis for class based training sessions on a fixed date each month. Additional training comprises of 1:1 coaching, online support and work place visits that provide a blended learning approach. Each apprentice is provided with a full training schedule at point of induction onto the apprenticeship so they and their employer know what support is on offer and when it takes place. The trainer will work with you to establish the exact timetable for these sessions.

Each apprentice submits a portfolio which must contain evidence of workplace tasks undertaken and completed. This evidence will be gathered throughout the apprenticeship and compiled by the apprentice. This will be explained in full by your Creative Process trainer in a set up meeting at the start of the job.
