By working on a range of petrol/diesel cars and light vans, you will be introduced to skills used by the motor industry. At this level you will be learning about wheels, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension known as chassis systems. You will also understand how batteries, starting and charging systems use electricity to generate energy and how they affect lighting and electric controls. In addition, you will learn how the clutch and transmission help a vehicle to move. You will have the opportunity to gain Functional Skills that will be essential if you wish to complete an Apprenticeship at a later date. Course Requirements

The Level 1 Diploma is designed to give you a basic level knowledge of progression within the motor industry. Mandatory Units
Health and Safety along with good housekeeping in the automotive environment
Tools and equipment and materials for vehicle maintenance IMI. Upon successful completion of the qualification, you can progress to Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or a first year Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle, subject to meeting the entry requirements and / or related employment criteria for an Apprenticeship. Assessment of the knowledge associated with this qualification varies and includes verbal questioning, observed tasks, written course work and online tests.
