The AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting involves students taking five modules. Students will extend the skills and knowledge of financial accounting, costing and ethics that they acquired at Level 2 and will also learn about VAT and how to use spreadsheets. Each module will involve students taking an online examination – one will take place every few weeks. Once all five modules are passed, a weighted average of the scores achieved will be used to arrive at a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade.

Course Information
This is a practical one year study programme designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to obtain employment to work in accounts and finance. The qualification also provides UCAS points equivalent to 2 A Levels at grade C should students be thinking of applying to university.

The modules you can expect to study are:

Advanced Bookkeeping: This examines the adjustments that might need to be made to an initial trial balance before the final accounts can be produced
Final Accounts Preparation: This covers sole traders, partnerships and the preparation of financial statements from incomplete records
Management and Costing: This examines the measurement and control of material, labour and overhead costs, different approaches to costing and short/long-term decision-making
Indirect Tax: This covers the rules and regulation surrounding VAT and includes the completion of VAT Returns
Advanced Diploma Synoptic: This module covrs the use of Excel Spreadsheets, Professional Ethics and revisits the bookkeeping and costing units
Students will also undertake modules designed to develop their employability skills – including problem-solving, self-reliance and teamwork. On this course students aged 16-18 receive free membership of the AAT.
