This course is designed for people who will be required to use oxygen as casualty administration or an adjunct to resuscitation. This may include the use of an analgesic gas such as Entonox for pain relief.
Aim
This course is designed to give delegates the competency to use oxygen for both therapy and as an adjunct to resuscitation plus the use of Entonox as pain relief for casualties. These medical gases can be taught in separate modules as bolt on sessions with other first aid courses where required, or as a separate module taught together over approximately 4 hours depending on the delegates experience.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this session, the delegates will be competent in the use of medical gases and understand the safety considerations, indications and contra-indications of their specific use.

Introduction to oxygen as a medical gas
Basic life support skills using oxygen and BVM
Oxygen therapy
Indications and contra-indications of oxygen use with casualties
Safety considerations when using oxygen
Introduction to entonox as a medical gas
Indications and contra-indications of entonox use with casualties
Safety considerations when using entonox
Delivery Method
A combination of classroom based activity, syndicate working and Presentation/demonstrations, practical application and question and answer paper. A wide range of video and photographic material is used to enhance the learning experience for delegates.
Assessment and Certification
Continued assessment process leading to certification on successfully completing the course.
