Course Aim:
This apprenticeship is aimed at those who are wishing to become a Nuclear Welding Inspection Technician (NWIT). The principle function of a Nuclear Welding Inspection Technician will be to provide quality control and welding inspection services for the nuclear industry. You will ensure that fabrications meet the exact quality requirements specified in regulations, specifications, standards and detailed engineering documents in an environment where quality standards are paramount and safety is the overriding priority.

Student Pre-Requisites:
Pre-requisites would typically be 5 GCSEs grades A-C including maths and English at grade B or new grading equivalent. New apprentices also have to successfully pass the Gen2 aptitude test.

Location and Delivery Model:
This apprenticeship is delivered at the Gen2 skills centre based in West Cumbria.

Year 1 – Apprentices would typically learn four days per week in a Gen2 West Cumbria skills centre, with one day per week for Technical training.

Year 2 and 3- Apprentices are placed on your site four days per week and study their Technical Certificate with Gen2 one day per week. The students are visited by Gen2 staff every six weeks to assess their competence and monitor progress.

Year 4 – Apprentices are in the workplace 5 days per week and visited every six weeks for assessment.

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship is awarded on successful completion of the End Point Assessment.
